Your website can play a major role in attracting prospective customers. A well-designed and easy to use website can keep visitors engaged and increase customer loyalty. Therefore, it is important that your online presence is fluid and always up to date.
Here are 5 signs it might be time to redesign your website:
1. Your offerings may have changed.
In the midst of this current pandemic, the world has shifted online. Almost every business transaction is being done online. It is important to make sure your website reflects the changes taking place in your business model to keep the customers updated.
2. Your website looks outdated or “home made”.
First impressions matter. If your website is appealing, there is a high chance your visitors will convert to paying customers. On the other hand, if it is outdated and far from the current trends, then you run the risk of losing potential customers. Therefore, if you think your website is a little outdated, it is time to revamp.
3. Your web pages take too long to load.
Website load times play a major role in attracting and retaining your customers. According to statistics, 53% of users are likely to leave and go to another website if your website takes more than 3 seconds to load. Further, a 1 second delay can reduce views by 11% and customer satisfaction by 16%.
Hence, if your website is taking longer to load, it should be redesigned. Chances are you might need to implement a plugin for caching and/or image compression.
4. Your web pages don’t look good on mobile view.
A responsive website refers to a website that displays well on any mobile device (whether it’s a tablet or a smartphone). Almost everyone has a smartphone today. Keep in mind that many of your prospective and current customers will be viewing your website while on the go (such as while waiting in line at the grocery store). A very common issue is having clickable elements (such as links and buttons) too close to each other.
In some cases, you might need to create a mobile only version of your site. This way you’ll have one version that displays on desktop and another version that displays on mobile.
5. You have a high bounce rate.
Bounce rate refers to the number of people that visit your website and leave without taking any action. A higher bounce rate indicates that there is a significant room for improvement in your website. Multiple factors can contribute to this such as pages taking too long to load or not displaying well on mobile.
Google Analytics can tell you what your bounce rate is. If your bounce rate is above 40%, then your website might need some work. Requesting a usability test (from a place like UserTesting) can offer insights on why so many people might be spending so little time on your website.
If you feel that your website is showing any of the above signs, it might be time for you to revamp it. Having an up to date and appealing website can significantly improve your traffic and conversions.
